Ain’t she the cutest widdle birdie?

Design inspiration found in craft paper:

Materials for the birdie:  ultra suede, cream corduroy, embroidery threads (highly recommend the kind that does not unravel into six strands), & beads

Materials for  cozy:  light grey felt, grey herringbone, cream & green fabric liner, iron-on adhesive

Directions for lettering can be found on post “java hugger 2”.  Since this cozy was especially made for my friend who is a Master Seamstress, near perfection was sought.  So… a bit of undoing along the way was necessary (beaks don’t pucker)…which can be tricky with fuzzy felt.  Every stitch was worth the time!

Cut the fabric (double check orientation) lining 3/8″ wider all around, turn under the top & bottom edges so they match the size of the felt piece.  Use iron-on adhesive to secure into place, blanket stitch long edges.

Test on coffee cup, pin together, blanket stitch.  Turn inside out, blanket stitch on the inside without poking through finished side.  Additional stitches may be needed here & there to seal together.

When considering colors for projects, I think about the 60-30-10 idea in room design.  60% main color, 30% another color, 10% accent.  The idea helps when choosing color & material placement.

pocket bag

A super cute, simple & functional tote pattern:  http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/projects-ideas/bags-pillows/pick-a-pocket-purse_1.html

Made a little more complicated by moi…since I had to make the liner fabric different than the exterior…

The outside is a chunky cream corduroy, interior large pocket an orange micro suede, interior small pockets & straps a sweet cream vine & flower print on chocolate brown.

So handy!  The perfect size for an ipad or books, plus the pockets are nice little organizers for glasses, phone, pens, & goodies.  Or, a gift bag purse created & filled with treats suited for recipient…  ho-ho-ho!

fowl play

Feather a doll’s nest with cute applique fleece blankets:

Similar to a previous post:  http://edit423.com/2011/10/07/monkey-biz/

Using coordinating & complimentary colors, shiny ric-rac, beads & rhinestone buttons for eyes.

Find a picture & use as a pattern by cutting out the different parts, or create your own bird, animal, design, etc..

Use iron-on adhesive to adhere bird parts & blanket, straight or machine stitches around the edges depending on the part.  The fleece blankets sport the perimeter knot pattern.

Christmas is around the corner…maybe a surprise original will be under wraps?
